Preparation & Tips

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix well to ensure the beef is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.

Prepare the Dipping Sauce: In another bowl, mix together lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and freshly ground black pepper. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.

Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the thinly sliced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized. Add the tomato wedges and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until they start to soften.

Assemble the Lok Lak: Arrange lettuce leaves on a serving platter. Place the cooked beef on top of the lettuce leaves. Arrange sliced cucumbers and tomatoes around the beef. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

Serve: Serve the Lok Lak immediately with the prepared dipping sauce on the side and steamed rice.
